Radif
Acrylic on board, 24″x36″
Radif draws inspiration from the meditative beauty of traditional textiles, particularly Iranian Kilims and Gabbeh carpets. I am captivated by their subtle irregularities and formal rhythm, qualities that transform everyday patterns into objects of quiet contemplation.
The title, Radif—a Persian word meaning “row” or “order”—also refers in Persian music to a collection of traditional melodic sequences. In these paintings, colors are arranged in rows and stripes, creating a visual rhythm that evokes the restrained, contemplative mood of minimalist music. A delicate surface texture further alludes to the tactility of woven fabrics, bridging the worlds of textile craft and painting. Through these works, I explore repetition, variation, and subtle imperfection, inviting viewers to experience the calm, layered beauty of form, color, and texture.
