Left and Right Wings
Gold leaf, rigid polyurethane foam; 2´ W x 6´ H x 10´ D
In Left and Right Wings, the familiar terms of political discourse are taken quite literally—and rendered in striking, almost sacred form. Gold leaf covers sculpted polyurethane wings, suspended in space as objects of both beauty and contemplation. By elevating the phrases “left wing” and “right wing” to literal, visual manifestations, the installation creates a sense of paradox: humor intertwined with critique, the sacred with the absurd.
The work interrogates our perceptions of political ideals, prompting viewers to consider the often preposterous promises embedded in partisan rhetoric. Through the lens of visual humor and formal beauty, the piece invites reflection on the allure, the limits, and the contradictions inherent in political symbolism—asking whether the lofty ideals we cling to are truly capable of lifting us, or whether they are mere flights of fancy.
