Re-Orient
Acrylic on canvas; 72″ x 96″
Re-Orient is a series of abstract compositions inspired by the gestural fluidity of Persian and Arabic calligraphy. Traditional forms are deconstructed—gestures are fragmented, magnified, and removed from their familiar linguistic context to reveal a new expressive potential. Executed with a paintbrush rather than the conventional bamboo pen, these strokes do not form letters or words; instead, they evoke movement, emotion, and the raw energy of mark-making.
The series occupies a space between conventional language and primal expression, reminiscent of a child’s spontaneous gestures. Re-Orient reimagines language as visual form, extracting essence and rhythm from calligraphic gestures while inviting viewers to experience meaning beyond words. The works celebrate abstraction, motion, and the emotive resonance inherent in the human hand.
