A Sense of Unity

Paint, Glass, Photography; 12´H x 92´W; each panel 72″H x 72″W

Installed in the lobby of Valley Medical Center in San Jose, A Sense of Unity consists of nine monumental glass panels that appear to float before a painted wall, their surfaces alive with shifting tones that evoke distant clouds or undulating waves. The work invites quiet reflection, offering visitors a moment of calm within a space defined by care and transition.

Conceived as a poetic response to the hospital’s social and architectural environment, A Sense of Unity was inspired by the forms of roses and dahlias. Through digital manipulation, these natural sources evolved into layered abstractions that merge organic beauty with geometric structure. The resulting images suggest both the warmth of the natural world and the clarity of mathematical precision—an equilibrium that echoes the balance sought in healing itself.

Each panel occupies a space between what is seen and what is imagined, holding onto the memory of nature while venturing into new aesthetic territory. In their floating, translucent presence, these images function as magnified portraits of symmetry and calm—offering a sense of visual and emotional harmony that reflects the spirit of the place they inhabit.
