Essence

Handblown glass, Rain water, Wax; Each bottle approximately 18″H x 7″W

Essence gathers small reliquaries of rainwater collected from various locations. Each sample rests in a hand-blown, clear glass bottle of unique shape and size, sealed and labeled with its date and place of collection.

The series began with a childlike fascination: rain falls from the sky, un-earthly and sacred. Over time, this idea has evolved into a metaphor for the very essence of life. I am intrigued by how water, though it takes countless forms — ice, steam, droplets, ponds, rivers, oceans — maintains the same fundamental nature.

In Essence, each bottle becomes a vessel for contemplation, a physical representation of unity within diversity. While the forms vary, the content remains constant: water, the life-giving essence that connects all existence. The series is a meditation on the search for an inner essence that underlies the multiplicity of the world.
