“Left and Right Wings”; Gold leaf, Rigid polyurethane foam; 2´W x 6´H x 10″D
In this installation I sought to investigate our perceptions and conceptions of political ideals by creating a climate of paradox and absurdity. By taking the terms “right wing” and “left wing” very literally and then elevating these symbols, by making them extremely beautiful, almost sacred, I hoped to point out the ludicrous, preposterous aspects of the political arena. Using humor in this way, I sought to inspire the viewer to question the very validity and authenticity of political ideals and their implied promises for flight/ salvation.
